We know some celebrations aren’t worth the price of a plane ticket, but when it comes to Christmas, it’s certainly an anomaly. It’s universally known that when the countdown to the big day comes, we tend to be full of joy, and full of yuletide cheer. Christmas is a time for fun, and that’s why traveling and seeing what the festive fun is like around the globe can be an activity in itself. From sun-drenched cities in the UAE to snow-frosted Christmas markets in the British capital, Christmas looks different for everyone.
We’ve dived into the wonders of the world to give you the round-up for December 2023, looking at where you should be heading – if not now, then perhaps in the future. Even if you’re a sun-seeking holidaymaker, we’ve got you covered! Regardless of where you’re going, rest assured that Saint Nick can find you and bring your gifts.
2) London, England
Why you should go: There is nowhere better to be ho-ho-ho-ing in than good old London. It’s got the character, it’s got the (debatable) frosty weather, and it’s got all the lights that you can imagine. Engulf yourself in true British heritage by taking a walk down Regent Street’s beaming light show, and watching the angels above your head. Warm your hands on the chilly walk by popping into the plethora of coffee shops and sipping down an indulgent hot cocoa. London during the Christmas period is the best time of year to ever visit, as the smiles are bigger, the cheer is in the air, and the attractions on offer are over the top. What could be better?
One activity we recommend: The Hollywood Christmas Casino Party in the West End. It doesn’t take much persuading to get us to any casino party, but Christmas themed? Sign us up! It’s got bubble flowing, glamour on tap, and the best offers for buy-ins that you have ever seen at an in-person casino. The only thing better than betting in a Christmas wonderland is online slots Canada, as you can never really win as big as back home… Either way, dressing up and channelling your Hollywood alter ego is still a fun night out.
Where can you stay? It’s not like you’re stuck for choice in the big city, as London has some of the best hotels in the world – but you can’t go too far wrong with Claridge’s. A stone’s throw away from Hyde Park for some Winter Wonderland fun, and just a short cab ride home from your big night on the casino tables… There is something for everyone!
2) Dubai, UAE
Why you should go: If you like London, then chances are you will love Dubai. They don’t do anything by half measures, and in typical Dubai fashion, it’s certified OTT. Some people don’t like the cold in winter, and that’s exactly why you’d make a trip across the Arabian Sea. It’s London on steroids: tree lights are twinkling in the sunset, The Palm is dressed like a winter castle, and there are Christmas markets in the heart of Jumeirah. A winter wonderland in the sun? You get the best of both worlds.
One activity we recommend: Whether it’s Christmas or not, the malls will always be a recommendation. It’s always air-conditioned (wouldn’t expect anything less!), and the inside is stunning. Head over to Ski Dubai, and throw yourselves down the indoor ski slopes and ice rinks. Why get cold and wet from the real stuff, when Dubai replicates it just as well?
Where can you stay? Like London, Dubai is renowned for its hotels – but The Atlantis at The Palm takes the cake. It’s a magical place to stay during the festive season and the gala dinners on offer deliver some tantalizingly delicious plates. There are a variety of restaurants, and rooms fit for a king, and you’re more than likely rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous – this one’s a real treat!
3) New York City, USA
Why you should go: All you need to do is head to 34th Street and wait for a miracle… What more could you want? New York is synonymous with Christmas, and there is nothing better than spending your day lapping up the shops on 5th Ave or skating around Central Park. Just like in the movies, the lights are twinkling and the snow is falling – it’s the perfect way to mimic your favourite Christmas film proposal. Mistletoe, anyone?
One activity we recommend: If you’re in the big smoke, you may as well head to the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree for a true Christmas experience. Who knows? You may catch Kevin McAllister reuniting with his mother… p.s. that’s an ode to Home Alone 2 if you aren’t Christmas movie nerds like us!
Where can you stay? No doubt about it – The Plaza. If it’s good enough for the Hollywood elites, then it is good enough for us!
